Eugenio Amadori 1921/2001

Eugenio Amadori, was born at Martorano in Cesena,in the italian region of Emilia Romagna. In 1938,just 16 years old,he won the first price in a contest for painters at Palazzo Ghini in Cesena.
Amadori had also a strong passion for the music, especially for the violin, and he began to study first at the institute of music "A.Corelli" in Cesena. Then he continued to study at the music-conservatory "G.Rossini" in Pesaro.
In 1942,he got involved, like so many other italians in that time,in the war. When the war ended he continued his study in Bologna,at the music-conservatory "G.B.Martini". In 1947 he graduated as a violinist and started his long musical career.
In his journeys in Italy and abroad,he always brought his colours and paintbrushes with him;mortalizing different sides and characteristics of the places he visited. He preferred and specialized in portraits.
In 1956 he moved from Cesena ,leaving his beloved Romagna for the "northern " part of the region ;Emilia, and the city of Bologna.Where he won the competition for a place like violinist at the orchestra of the City Theatre, where he stayed for 25 years until he retired. During this time he portraited several directors of the orchestra,S.Celibidache,L.von Matacic,R.Lupi, and opera singers like R.Panerai,L.Pavarotti,G.Fioravanti and several others.
And from his lectern during breaks,he used to make caricatures of the "great ones of music",from which he made small grotesque figures in clay.He used to call them: "my victims"!
Until this day, there has been 65 personal painting exhibitions, for to mention a few of them: 1955 in Johannesburg,1962 in Lausanne,1968 in New York,1982 in East Lansing(Mich. USA);and 17 special exhibitions of caricatures of known people from the musical world.
Eugenio Amadori has not just been a painting artist, but also a talented musician,a violinist.
His passion for this instrument, the violin, has often been an ongoing theme in his paintings, like his self-portraits,and it made sense for him to be represented by "proxy",to give "body to the art",like a chimerical prothesis of himself.
